Shopping

The Mercadona supermarket on the roundabout at the entrance to
Playa Flamenca is the best place to go for fresh fish, meat and produce,
It’s also very good for wines – you can normally buy a decent bottle
of ‘Rioja’ for about one pound ( 1.5 euros ).

Discount Plus next
to Mercadona is a ‘pile it high, sell it cheap’ supermarket. It’s
generally good value for non – perishables but the limited range
of fresh produce is not always that fresh, There is a good butchers
within Discount Plus. These two shops will generally have everything
you will need for your holiday. There is also a newsagents in the
shopping arcade within Mercadona that has the English and other
European papers the day following issue.

If you feel you need a greater choice there is a Carrefour hypermarket
on the outskirts of Torrevieja – you probably would have spotted
the signs if you arrived from Alicante. To get there you need to
take the N 332 towards Torrevieja and take the exit sign posted
Crevillente , then just follow the stream of traffic going left
at the roundabout all heading for the store. If you exit Playa Flamenea
to the right in the opposite direction to Torrevieja you will come
across a number of ceramic stores for your souvenirs although you
will buy these items and much much more at the Saturday open market
held on the main road in Playa Flamenca. Naturally it will be much
cheaper too.
